As the nation pulls together to support those affected by the devastating tornadoes in Oklahoma, We Give Books, the digital literacy initiative from the Pearson Foundation and the Penguin Group, today announced that it will donate 5,000 books to schools whose buildings were destroyed by the catastrophic storms.

In addition to donating books to support the area’s recovery, We Give Books will accept financial donations at http://www.wegivebooks.org, which will be used to support the local schools and teachers, as well as libraries. We Give Books will increase the impact of these gifts by donating two additional books to students in Oklahoma for each $5 donated by June 30, 2013. All financial donations at We Give Books are tax deductible.

“At the heart of We Give Books is the lesson of giving to those who are in need,” said Pearson Foundation President and CEO Mark Nieker. “What happened in Oklahoma was heartbreaking, but the strength and spirit of her people inspires us. As they recover and rebuild, individuals and organizations across the United States are coming together to support the communities that have lost so much, and we’re committed to playing a part in that much larger effort.”
