I n a January 26, 2013 New York Times article, writer and prepper Alan Feuer discusses what he refers to as the “prepper movement.” In his article he states that, “[New York’s] prepping community is not only large and remarkably diverse, its leaders say, it’s also growing rapidly.” This increased fanfare has created a big market. One major buzz word that exists in the market currently is “tactical.”

You plan your tactics around this, but planning how to win a fight and how to survive are two different things. Military and police plan to win the fight; we should plan to survive. This does involve putting some pride away and focusing on what is important. You can’t always be the hero or the victor.”

Throughout the article, Travis discusses ways a person can plan tactics and then how they should plan their gear around those tactics. He goes into detail about ways preppers can protect themselves by not spending too much money and how to blend into society. He does this by discussing the advantages and disadvantages of plate carrier vests, load bearing vests and tactical belts.
