The purpose of the compensator is to reduce the recoil of the gun when fired

Useful for reducing recoil, bushing replacement compensators for the 1911 are now available from EFK Fire Dragon. For both government and commander model owners, the 1911 is offered in black Matte, Matte, polished Matte, and polished stainless steel finishes.
They are equipped with a three port design with dual chambers that reduces the muzzle flip and felt recoil. Made to match factory settings closely, they require only minor fitting (no gunsmithing) according to EFK Fire Dragon. A new compensator will also need a new barrel bushing, available for purchase from EFK Fire Dragon as well. Furthermore, the addition of the compensator will add about an inch of length to the side arm.
The purpose of the compensator is to reduce the recoil of the gun when fired. This is especially advantageous when firing in quick succession. The reduction minimizes the movement of the gun upward each time the slide kicks back to release a casing. This improves the accuracy of each succeeding shot after the first.
In addition to 1911, EFK Fire Dragon offers threaded pistol compensators for multiple glock types. Other pistol accessories provided by EFK include standard, ported, and threaded barrels; replacement springs, guide rods, and more. For more information visit http://www.efkfiredragon.com.
