Historically, Memorial Day is one of the biggest weekends of the year for road trips in America. CNN reports that approximately 30.7 million people traveled over the holiday in 2012. Though MissTravel.com is known for setting up members on extravagant first date getaways, the website’s Founder & CEO, Brandon Wade, admits that over Memorial Day, most members like to date closer to home.
“Memorial day marks the beginning of Summer; the pools are open, the beaches are packed and people are ready to get wet,” remarks Wade. “However, we noticed more members are opting for “Show Me Your Town” trips during Memorial Day weekend instead of choosing to travel abroad.”
MissTravel.com offers three trip types for members to choose from: “Travel with Me,” where members choose to travel together to another destination; “Show Me Your Town,” where a member chooses to visit another member in their hometown; and “Come to Me,” where a member invites another member to visit them on their dime.
“Most members prefer planning trips near the water,” comments Wade. “The proximity to the water creates a beautiful setting for a romantic destination date as well as provides a built-in itinerary for activities such as boating, jet- skiing, and swimming. Most of the time these dates are planned in tropical destinations. But sometimes, it’s easier to catch a wave closer to home.”
