Fully grieving and giving in to pain is essential to the healing process. In my experience, the sense of a loved one's presence follows on the heels of mourning.

Life’s journey often leads us to unexpected places. For one grieving mother, solace was found at Yosemite Park.
An inspirational story about love, loss, grief and healing, Freedom to Fall is the story of Carol Hampson, a mother who lost her son in a tragic rock climbing accident at Yosemite.
Driven by a need to understand why he engaged in a pursuit so dangerous, Hampson immersed herself in the climbing community. As she began putting together stories from Chris’s friends and family members, she found purpose in her grief. As she explores Chris’s life and talks to those who knew him best, she finds solace in her faith and the love Chris had for life itself. The stories and memories others shared with her let her see her son in the eyes of others, letting her know him in ways she otherwise would not have. Through her love, she sensed that Chris was still with her and always would be.
Chris Hampson, an accomplished climber and mentor, deeply impacted those in the climbing community. After the news of his death spread, the family realized the effect Chris had on those around him.
It was then that Carol made the decision to honor Chris by sharing his story. Her personal and raw account of the year following Chris’s death chronicles her journey of grief and ultimately coming to terms with his death through a pilgrimage to Yosemite on the one-year anniversary.
“Fully grieving and giving in to pain is essential to the healing process,” says Hampson. “In my experience, the sense of a loved one’s presence follows on the heels of mourning. It is the saving grace.”
Hampson’s passion is for storytelling. She hopes to use her talent to share the journey of her grief and spiritual path with those who are experiencing a similar loss.
