Evan Miller, Ph.D., Program Director for The Landing at Sober Living by the Sea, is scheduled to lead an Addiction Professional webinar titled “Personality Structure and Addiction: A Psychodynamic Understanding” on Thursday, May 30, 2013. The webinar is part of a series by Addiction Professional magazine, the addiction treatment and prevention field’s clinical magazine outlining what’s working in services for people with addictive disorders.
The webinar will help participants compile a basic understanding of borderline, psychopathic, and narcissistic personality styles, describe defensive structure in the addicted population, and discuss treatment implications for clients organized at various psychodynamic personality types. Key attention will be given to defensive structure and pattern recognition as important components for case conceptualization.
Dr. Miller is the Program Director for The Landing at Sober Living by the Sea, an eight bed men’s primary substance abuse treatment program located on the sandy beaches of Newport Beach, California. The program utilizes an “East Meets West” clinical philosophy, emphasizes brain health, and provides individualized and gender specific therapy.
Dr. Miller specializes in the treatment of addiction from a psychodynamic perspective, taking into account the complex underlying issues in each client’s pathology. Dr. Miller has an extensive background in clinical program development, evidence-based treatment initiatives, and applied athletic performance enhancement. His research areas include personality disorders, archetypal theory, chemical dependency and co-occurring disorders, and depth-oriented sport psychology. Dr. Miller speaks nationally on addiction and clinical program development.
