The focus of the meeting this year is in perfect alignment with our philosophy of making the patient's experience a key element of any clinical interaction.

WriteResult, leading provider of clinical data solutions, introduced their newest ePRO solution last week at the 18th Annual International ISPOR Meeting in New Orleans, LA. myPROpad, an Apple-based solution, transforms standard and custom questionnaires into touch-friendly iPad screens that are intuitive for patients and fit neatly into site workflow.

While last year's meeting was geared towards improving healthcare efficiency, the 18th Annual Meeting centered on the patient. "The focus of the meeting this year is in perfect alignment with our philosophy of making the patient's experience a key element of any clinical interaction. Compliance is increased when patients are engaged in their care whether or not that care is being provided in a traditional or research setting," explained WriteResult VP of Sales and Marketing Karen Briegs. "Response to the sneak peek at myPROpad was very positive because it provides yet another option beyond our digital writing solution that takes into account the importance of maintaining the traditional format of the PRO instrument and keeping the patient's interaction with technology comfortable."

In further support of the importance of patient centricity and engagement, Ari Gnanasakthy, Head of Patient Reported Outcomes at Novartis Pharmaceuticals and well known expert in clinical outcome assessment (COA) shared his thoughts on the conference and how the dialogue for regulators and industry is making a substantial shift toward proactive patient involvement in the development of drugs and devices. "The days of the doctor-to-patient monologue are over," he explains. "Patients are becoming more involved in health care choices, and have more tools available to educate them than ever before. Add to this the emphasis global regulators are putting on a much broader definition of efficacy for approval that demands positive overall health impact. Now it's our role as Researchers to assure that development plans include robust and meaningful data from COAs that demonstrate a multi-faceted benefit to a patient's health and well-being. We've been talking about it for a while, but now we can see that patient-centric drug development is here."
