Most lawyers offer a free consultation and it doesn't hurt to learn your options.
CHARLESTON (PRWEB) May 30, 2013
Memorial Day weekend is historically an occasion for very high rates of car accidents, and this year was no exception. Many families saw their holiday festivities cut abruptly short by an accident, and some are still reeling – but Charleston personal injury attorney Gary Christmas says they can get help.
Christmas is the founder of Howell & Christmas law firm and an advocate for accident victims' rights. Through his work in personal injury law he helps victims identify the best course of legal action and receive compensation for the injuries they suffered. He says many accident victims don't realize they are entitled to benefits.
“Even though we call car crashes 'accidents,' most of them could have been avoided,” Christmas said. “If another driver made the wrong choice behind the wheel, or wasn't paying attention, they are considered negligent and are legally liable for the costs.”
According to Christmas, accident victims who rely only on insurance to cover their costs often don't get the full compensation they're entitled to.
“Insurance companies want to save money and they will try to pressure you into taking a low settlement,” he said. “But you are owed compensation for your medical costs and lost wages as well as your car damages.”
The same is true for boating accidents.
“Many families go boating on Memorial Day and if someone collides with you it can be a serious and costly accident,” he said.
Christmas advises that anyone involved in an accident should talk to an attorney.
“Most lawyers offer a free consultation and it doesn't hurt to learn your options,” Christmas said. “Especially when someone was injured.”
