We are so honored to not only receive a Small Business Award, but to have been nominated by the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program, of which my wife, Janice, is a graduate.

Three Brothers Bakery, Houston’s fifth generation baked goods staple, has been selected by the U.S. Small Business Administration as a Houston District award winner, having been named the Jeffrey Butland Family-Owned Business of the Year. The Houston bakery is one of only six local businesses to receive a 2013 Small Business Award.

For the past 50 years, the President of the United States has issued a proclamation announcing National Small Business Week, a week to recognize the contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners. During this time, the U.S. Small Business Administration takes the opportunity to highlight the impact entrepreneurs, small businesses and owners make on their communities through its Small Business Awards.

This is the first year Three Brothers Bakery has been nominated for and will be named the Jeffrey Butland Family-Owned Business of the Year. The award honors a family-owned and operated business, which has been passed on from one generation to the next. One of the original three brothers, Sigmund Jucker, passed the bakery down to his son, Bobby Jucker, who now owns the bakery with wife, Janice, and aunt, Estelle Jucker.

The bakery and its owners have contributed to the Houston community for 64 years, and through the opening of its second location in February 2012, was able to create 10 new jobs for Houstonians, making them an ideal candidate for the award.

“We are so honored to not only receive a Small Business Award, but to have been nominated by the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program, of which my wife, Janice, is a graduate,” Bobby Jucker, co-owner and fifth generation baker, said. “The Small Business Administration is an incredible resource for small businesses each year, and we take their stamp of approval very seriously.”

Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses is a $500 million national program designed with the goal of helping small businesses throughout the country create jobs and, thus, economic growth by providing small business owners and entrepreneurs with business education, access to capital and support services. Co-owner, Janice Jucker went through the program in 2012, and the bakery continues to use its services and guidance through their continuing education programs.

“Actually, we probably would not be in business today, if it were not for the Small Business Administration’s Disaster Relief loan we received after Hurricane Ike. Since then, we’ve taken classes and used the consulting services offered at the SBA’s Small Business Development Center on Fannin Street, regularly,” added Janice Jucker.

Three Brothers Bakery will receive its first Small Business Award today at the Small Business Awards Luncheon presented by Mayor Annise D. Parker and sponsored by the SBA and SCORE. The family looks forward to sharing the honor with its Houston customers, fans and their bakery “family” who help create all of the sweet memories for the community.

About Three Brothers Bakery

The traditions of Three Brothers Bakery began in Chrzanow, Poland circa 1825, and continued to thrive despite the family’s concentration camp imprisonment during the Holocaust. Their miraculous liberation, and subsequent move to Houston, brought Eastern European scratch baking traditions to 4036 S. Braeswood Blvd and 12393 Kingsride Lane, where the owners are now proud to call themselves “memory makers who just happen to be bakers.” Perfecting the process for almost 200 years, each day the fifth generation bakers produce mostly dairy-free breads and pastries, cookies, a full line of specialty dessert cakes and pies, as well as custom birthday, special occasion, wedding and groom’s cakes using only the highest quality ingredients.

The Three Brothers Bakery pecan pie was named “the best mail order pecan pie America has to offer” by Country Living magazine, and most recently, bakery owner, Bobby Jucker competed in the popular ‘Food Network Challenge’ and has been seen on Food Network’s Outrageous Food. Three Brothers Bakery is a certified Woman-Owned Business through Women’s Business Enterprise National Council, and a State of Texas Historically Underutilized Business.
