The USO Board of Governors announces two new members to serve on its board in 2013. The new board members include:
•Marillyn A. Hewson, Chief Executive Officer and President, Lockheed Martin Corporation
•William J. Lynn III, Chief Executive Officer, DRS Technologies, Inc.
Hewson and Lynn were elected to the USO Board of Governors at its April meeting in Kaiserslautern, Germany. These two new members join a governance board of 36 members, representing top leaders in diverse fields such as defense, business, entertainment, media, and philanthropy.
"Our newest board members will join us in guiding USO initiatives that support America’s troops and their families worldwide,” said General Richard B. Myers (USAF, Ret), Chairman of the USO Board of Governors and former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. “Both Marillyn and Bill bring a wealth of experience that will not only provide good governance of USO’s mission, but they will help us leverage our tremendous capacity in the years to come.”
In November 2010, General Richard B. Myers (USAF, ret.) became the Chairman of the USO Board of Governors. He was elected to the board in 2006.
The USO (United Service Organizations) lifts the spirits of America’s troops and their families. In its 72nd year, the USO continues its enduring mission by constantly adapting to the immediate needs of troops and families who need them the most. The USO provides a touch of home through centers at airports and military bases around the world, top quality entertainment and innovative programs and services tailored to meet troop needs. The organization also provide critical support to those who need us most, including forward-deployed troops, military families, wounded warriors and their families, and the families of the fallen.

Marillyn A. Hewson

Lockheed Martin Corporation
Marillyn A. Hewson is Chief Executive Officer and President of Lockheed Martin Corporation. Prior to assuming that role on Jan. 1, 2013, she held a variety of increasingly responsible executive positions with the Corporation, including President and Chief Operating Officer, and Executive Vice President of Lockheed Martin's Electronic Systems business area. She is also a member of Lockheed Martin's Board of Directors, elected Nov. 9, 2012.
In her 30 years with Lockheed Martin, Ms. Hewson has held several operational leadership positions including President of Lockheed Martin Systems Integration; Executive Vice President of Global Sustainment for Lockheed Martin Aeronautics; President and General Manager of Kelly Aviation Center, L.P., an affiliate of Lockheed Martin; and President of Lockheed Martin Logistics Services. She has also served in key corporate executive roles, including Senior Vice President of Corporate Shared Services, Vice President of Global Supply Chain Management, and Vice President of Corporate Internal Audit.
Ms. Hewson chairs the Sandia Corporation Board of Directors and serves on the Board of Directors of DuPont. She is a member of the Economic Club of Washington, D.C., and the University of Alabama's Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration Board of Visitors. She also serves as Steering Committee Chair for the Defense Industry Initiative. Ms. Hewson was selected by Fortune magazine as one of the "50 Most Powerful Women in Business" in 2010, 2011 and 2012, and was named by Forbes as one of the "World's 100 Most Powerful Women" in 2013.
Born in Junction City, Kansas, Ms. Hewson earned her Bachelor of Science degree in business administration and her Master of Arts degree in economics from The University of Alabama. She also attended the Columbia Business School and Harvard Business School executive development programs.
William J. Lynn III
Chief Executive Officer
DRS Technologies, Inc.
William J. Lynn is the Chief Executive Officer of DRS Technologies, Inc. Prior to joining DRS in 2012, Mr. Lynn served as the 30th U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense from 2009 until 2011. Serving under Secretaries Robert Gates and Leon Panetta, he managed three million personnel and oversaw an annual budget of $700 billion. He also personally led the department's efforts in cyber security, space strategy and energy policy.
From 2002 to 2009, Mr. Lynn was Senior Vice President of Government Operations and Strategy at the Raytheon Company. Previously, he served as Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller) from 1997 to 2001 and as Director of Program Analysis and Evaluation in the Office of the Secretary of Defense from 1993 to 1997. Mr. Lynn also worked on the staff of Senator Ted Kennedy as his counsel for the Senate Armed Services Committee.
He has been recognized for numerous professional and service contributions, including four Department of Defense medals for distinguished public service, the Joint Distinguished Civilian Service Award from the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and awards from the U.S. Army, Navy and Air Force.
Mr. Lynn holds a J.D. from Cornell Law School and a Master's degree in Public Affairs from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University. He is also a graduate of Dartmouth College.
