ZMF 2013 Concert Series at Humboldt State University & Arcata Playhouse features world-class festival faculty.

Zeltsman Marimba Festival is taking place in Arcata, California for the first time in its 11-season history. Co-sponsored by Humboldt State University and Arcata Playhouse, the two-week festival has a two-fold mission: to educate marimbists and to share marimba music with the community. Arcata is home to Marimba One, known internationally as a manufacturer of fine marimbas, so the festival is a natural fit for this marimba-inclined city.

Participants work closely with faculty in an intensive, fun, music seminar environment centered on marimba performance. The world-class faculty is featured in a series of eight concerts to which the public is warmly invited. The ZMF 2013 Concert Series presents music in a diverse array of styles and offers listeners an unparalleled chance to experience the breadth of the marimba and hear an impressive slate of performers.

The 60 faculty members and participants for ZMF 2013 will arrive from 13 states (California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ohio, Illinois, Texas, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, New York and New Jersey) as well as Canada, Mexico, Greece, Portugal, Belgium, Luxembourg, China, Japan and Korea. Many past participants have gone on to describe their experience as "life-changing."

"I'm thrilled that ZMF will bring together so many acclaimed artists and talented young musicians to share their music and collaborate with each other," says Nancy Zeltsman, Artistic Director and founder of Zeltsman Marimba Festival.

"It's probably safe to say that a marimba concert series on this scale has never come to Arcata before, and yet Arcata is known to the world of marimbists for the exceptional instruments manufactured there by Marimba One," continues Zeltsman.

As Marimba One owner and Arcata resident Ron Samuels puts it, "This is sure to be a truly inspiring event to all the amazing musicians who will be participating in the festival, and also to everyone who is fortunate enough to hear the beautiful music that will be performed on the marimba."

"Marimbists aren't 'household names,' but we hope people will take a leap of faith and experience some remarkable performances, and exciting, thought-provoking, moving music!" says Zeltsman.
