Major, Lindsey & Africa (MLA), the world’s leading legal search firm, today announced that Paul Allen (Northern California), Cliff Jarrett (Charlotte/Raleigh Durham), Barbara Kott (Northern California) and Greg Richter (New York) have been named Partners.

Paul Allen is a Partner with MLA’s San Francisco office and a member of the firm’s Partner Practice Group. Prior to joining MLA, Paul practiced law in San Francisco and Silicon Valley for 20 years with major law firms and as In-House counsel. Paul served as Executive Director and Division Risk Manager for Morgan Stanley’s Global Wealth Management Group. He was a Partner with Bingham McCutchen’s Securities Practice in San Francisco, primarily representing major financial institutions and senior management in private client litigation, and before the Securities and Exchange Commission, FINRA and other regulatory agencies. Paul served as Executive Director with Morgan Stanley’s Law Division after having been appointed First Vice President and Assistant General Counsel. He also has experience in commercial, employment and patent litigation, and began his legal career as securities, employment and commercial litigation counsel at Thelen Reid & Priest. Paul earned his law degree from Cornell Law School in 1987 and his bachelor's degree from the University of California at Berkeley in 1982.
Cliff Jarrett is Partner and Office Leader of MLA’s Charlotte/Raleigh Durham office. He focuses on the placement of partners, practice groups and associates with law firms and has successfully placed lawyers at international, regional and local firms throughout the southeast and nationally. Prior to opening MLA’s North Carolina office, Cliff was a partner in the Charlotte office of Kennedy Covington Lobdell & Hickman, where he practiced for nearly 16 years in commercial and intellectual property litigation. Cliff’s many years of practice and his involvement in bar association and community activities have resulted in strong relationships with attorneys and firms throughout the southeast. Cliff taps into this rich network to help law firm candidates in both states. Cliff graduated from Washington & Lee University School of Law: J.D., cum laude, and he was a member of Editorial Board of W&L Law Review. He also attended Guilford College where he received an A.B. in economics with high honors.
Barbara Kott is a Partner with the San Francisco office of MLA and a member of the firm’s Associate Practice Group. She has placed partners and associates in both large and small law firms as well as corporations. Prior to joining MLA, Barbara was a corporate attorney with Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati in Palo Alto, where her practice focused on a broad range of corporate transactions, including numerous public offerings, venture capital transactions and mergers and acquisitions. Barbara’s legal experience has afforded her deep and long lasting relationships throughout the Bay Area’s legal community, which she brings to her successful recruiting practice.
Greg Richter, is Regional Practice Manager and a Partner in MLA’s In-House Group and Global Practice Leader of Inside Edge Legal (IEL), overseeing the In-House recruiting efforts for MLA’s east coast offices. He is responsible for creating strategy and implementing best practices across the practice group and providing training and mentoring to In-House recruiters in the Eastern Region. Greg also oversees the firm’s functional and strategic initiatives for IEL, an affiliate company of MLA established to provide highly skilled attorneys and specialized paralegals to law firms and corporate legal departments on a temporary basis for substantive legal projects. IEL provides specialized contract legal staffing services to clients needing staff augmentation, flexible and contingent workforce options, temporary-to-permanent hiring and human capital management.
Prior to joining MLA, Greg was a Director of Business Operations for Aerotek’s New York offices. Under Greg’s leadership Aerotek established a top performing team and brand presence across multiple business lines in the historically underperforming market. Greg was responsible for all aspects of sales, recruiting, strategic planning, hiring, training and P&L management while directing over 75 employees. Greg’s contributions include opening Aerotek business lines establishing the Melville, Long Island and Jersey City, New Jersey offices. Greg received his Bachelor’s of Science in marketing communications with a minor in history from Quinnipiac College in Hamden, Connecticut.
