Tuff Turf Releases Signature Care Synthetic Turf Maintenance Program

Although synthetic turf requires much less upkeep than natural grass, it is not completely maintenance-free. There are a number of things that owners need to do on a regular basis in order to maximize the lifetime of the turf and keep it performing at its best.

We may like the idea of a lush, green sporting facility with natural grass. However, in Australia’s hot and dry summers, grass requires copious amounts of watering in order to remain healthy. It also needs a lot of time and money invested in regular maintenance such as fertilizing, mowing and weeding.

For large high-traffic areas such as schools and sporting fields, synthetic turf is a low-maintenance option that can provide a consistent and attractive playing surface.

Although synthetic turf requires much less upkeep than natural grass, it is not completely maintenance-free. There are a number of things that owners need to do on a regular basis in order to maximize the lifetime of the turf and keep it performing at its best.

Sweep Surface, Remove Debris
First and foremost, Tuff Turf recommends regular removal of surface debris such as rubbish, fallen leaves or animal droppings before they have a chance to decompose. This will ensure the turf not only looks its best, but also that it remains as sanitary as possible. This is particularly important in facilities such as schools where it’s crucial to provide a hygienic playing area for children.

Replenish Infill
Tuff Turf also recommends that owners regularly inspect the turf for unevenness that may develop in high-traffic areas such as in front of a soccer goal. To rectify this, it’s a simple case of replenishing the infill. This is particularly important for sporting grounds where it is imperative to provide a consistent playing surface.

Sanitise
Smaller areas of synthetic turf such as back yards will need a wash down with a hose. Larger areas such as soccer pitches or tennis courts may require cleaning with a high-quality biodegradable sanitizer.

In addition to these basic maintenance activities, Tuff Turf recommends that commercial users keep a monthly maintenance schedule that includes:
Cleaning of surface, vacuum if possible
Sanitization of surface when required
Top up of infill material
Inspection of all line markings including tags
Assessment of line straightness
Replacement and rectification of line markings if required
Treatment of weeds
Assessment of seam work
Assessment of base for movement
Assessment of perimeter anchoring points
De-compaction of infill material
Assessment of drainage discharge points
Assessment of pile exposure
