Here at Foundation Financial, the cause is personal because we actually have several team members who have been diagnosed with Lupus. This walk was a great way to support those members of the FFG family. FFG truly does want to end Lupus now.
Atlanta, Georgia (PRWEB) June 06, 2013
Foundation Financial Group employees from the company’s Atlanta Regional Sales Center, located at 100 Galleria Parkway #1400, participated in the 7th Annual Walk to End Lupus Now event, benefiting the Lupus Foundation of America’s research efforts. Thousands of participants descended on Piedmont Park in support of the many people whose lives are affected by Lupus.
With over 8,000 supporters, the Atlanta-based walk is the largest of all the nation’s walks organized by the Lupus Foundation of America. Foundation Financial employees and their families joined other Lupus activists to walk the 1.5 mile route from the Meadow’s 10th Street entrance to Piedmont Park. Walkers hoped to raise funds and awareness for those suffering from Lupus.
Lupus affects over 1.5 million Americans, mostly young women, ages 18 to 50, and minorities. Lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease that occurs when the body's immune system attacks the tissues and organs. Inflammation caused by Lupus can impact many different bodily systems including joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart and lungs. Because many symptoms of Lupus mimic those of other illnesses, Lupus can be a difficult disease to diagnose, which creates additional challenges for those suffering from Lupus.
“My sister has Lupus, so I walked for her and for the millions of others who are also suffering from this cruel disease,” said Foundation Financial Group Event Coordinator, Crystal Glen. “Awareness and education are important tools for eliminating common misconceptions about Lupus. A lot of people don’t take the disease seriously because those who suffer from Lupus don’t always look sick. Here at Foundation Financial, the cause is personal because we actually have several team members who have been diagnosed with Lupus. This walk was a great way to support those members of the FFG family. FFG truly does want to end Lupus now.”
Of every dollar donated to the Atlanta walk, 90 percent remains in Georgia. This ensures that the Georgia Chapter of the Lupus Foundation of America is able to continue to provide and expand its statewide educational programs, advocacy and awareness efforts including nine Lupus symposiums and new support groups across Georgia. By raising awareness and fighting for families affected by Lupus, The Georgia Chapter has become a lifeline and a voice of hope. The chapter also supports national research efforts; funding and advocating for investment in Lupus. Ten years ago, no one spoke of Lupus. There was little awareness and understanding of the signs and symptoms and very little research investment. The LFA has paved the way for those suffering from Lupus and now they have a voice.
