The U.S. University Recruitment Seminar embodies the strategic mission of CIEE China: to serve as a leader in providing ongoing services and opportunities that connect Chinese students and institutions with top-quality educational exchange programming.
Portland, Maine (PRWEB) June 04, 2013
This past April, CIEE China hosted its second annual U.S. University Recruitment Seminar, which connects admissions officers from top-tier U.S. universities with qualified college applicants from China. Admissions officers from Cornell University, Emory University, Rice University, and the University of Chicago participated in this year’s CIEE China-sponsored events in Beijing, Chengdu, and Shanghai.
Chinese students who qualify for the U.S. University Recruitment Seminar take part in individual interview sessions with admissions officers, offering American universities the rare opportunity to meet with and evaluate exceptional Chinese students in person. This year’s event, which was free of charge for both students and universities, included more than 250 student participants.
In order to attend the Seminar, students underwent a rigorous screening process that included a review of SAT and TOEFL test scores and personal résumés. Applicants could also submit their CIEE Applicant Interview (CAI) scores for review. Through the CAI, CIEE staff conducts face-to-face interviews of applicants in China, Taiwan, and Korea and provides universities with interview videos, writing samples, and evaluative reports at no cost to the schools.
According to Director of CIEE China Chris Van Velzer, the U.S. University Recruitment Seminar embodies the strategic mission of CIEE China: to serve as a leader in providing ongoing services and opportunities that connect Chinese students and institutions with top-quality educational exchange programming. “The 2013 CIEE U.S. University Recruitment Seminar was a tremendous success. We were especially impressed by the high caliber of students and U.S. university participants at this year’s event.”
University representatives in attendance praised CIEE for creating a valuable recruitment experience that enabled organized and extensive face-to-face contact with pre-screened students. Attending students also reviewed the event positively. Student and Seminar attendee Sha Bowen said, “These two days have been a great experience as I [was] able to communicate with [the] hospitable faculty of CIEE and counselors coming from four top universities in the U.S.”
