Unal presents a comprehensive account of the life of a major figure in the Islamic history. The second khalif to take charge after the Prophet Muhammad, Umar ibn Khattab is known for his unyielding stance toward injustice and safekeeping of the religion, that is, Islam. Described by the Prophet Muhammad with having prophet like reasoning and foresight, Umar ibn Khattab is a striking example of transformation from his insentient pre-Islamic customs into a mature and devout follower of Islam.
Through a concise narrative, Tarik Unal reflects the stages of growth and maturity in Umar ibn Al Khattab from his acceptance of Islam and to his leadership over the first expansion of the Islamic world toward east and west. In the book, young readers will come to find a universal image of Umar ibn Al Khattab, his humanistic traits, his way of governance with the utmost sense of responsibility, his great prudence and wisdom, and his connection with the Qur’an and the way of the Prophet Muhammad that underlies all of his judgements and actions.
