Burlington Worldwide, a division of International Textile Group, announced this week that it has been certified as a bluesign® system partner. The bluesign® standards is a comprehensive Input Stream Management System that covers all environmental, health and safety aspects along the textile manufacturing chain. Burlington fabrics that carry the bluesign® approved fabric label meet this strict criteria and are certified as using bluesign® approved dyes, chemicals and raw materials.

With this certification, Burlington adds to its commitment to provide leading, innovative fabrics, while expanding its sustainable fabric capabilities. Burlington has always pursued manufacturing processes that are good for its associates, consumers and the environment.

The first Burlington bluesign® approved fabrics will be produced at the company’s manufacturing facility in Jiaxing, China which produces technical synthetic fabrics for the active and outdoor markets, hospitality, and other specialty uses.

“Consumers are increasingly sensitive to their own environmental impact and the impact of those products they are using,” says Jeff Peck, President for Burlington Worldwide. “At the same time, conscientious consumers are looking to independent sources to identify those products with less environmental impact.”

Peck continued, “Burlington ensures its facilities maintain the same safety and environmental standards no matter where they are located, so our operation in China meets the same operating and regulatory standards as our facilities in North America. The bluesign® system is unique in that it addresses the sustainability and consistency of our products, providing our customers and consumers additional assurance, without compromising the functionality, quality, or design which distinguish Burlington brand products.”

The bluesign® standard offers a third party approval system for the textile industry, taking into account the whole production process and minimizing the impact on the environment and safeguarding human health. This unique approach links together suppliers, manufacturers, retailers and brands to jointly reduce the environmental impact and to foster a responsible textile industry.
