After a successful Kickstarter Campaign, Argania Gourmet is bringing Moroccan cuisine to all with their range of products centered around 100% organic argan oil.

After a successful Kickstarter Campaign to raise initial funds, Argania will be officially launching their gourmet food cooperative and selling their products centered on argan oil and a range of authentic amlous.

Often referred to as ‘liquid gold’, argan oil is known as one of the rarest oils in the world, found exclusively in Southwestern Morocco. The process for producing argan oil is labor intensive; local Berber women break down fruit harvested from argan trees by hand, which is then processed into argan oil.

Argan oil has a bold, nutty flavor that is complemented by its nutritional profile serving as a great source for Vitamin E, antioxidants and essential fatty acids. Argan oil serves as the core product and ingredient for Argania.

Amlous are a traditional Moroccan delicacy that consists of 3 primary ingredients: argan oil, nuts, and honey. The consistency is thinner than a typical nut butter and is often used as a dipping sauce, but is also appropriate to use as a spread. The traditional form of amlou is typically made with peanuts, although using different nuts adds diversity and unique flavors to the classic recipe.

Argania is currently producing three types of amlous: Peanut Amlou, Almond Amlou, and Chocolate Hazelnut Amlou.

Argania uses a unique model that emphasizes the importance of their cooperative and giving back to the producers and their communities. The cooperative consists of 60 women who are able to earn a fair wage that is more than 10x the standard wage given in the industry.

By cutting out middlemen and selling directly to our customers, we are able to maximize the return to producers in a transparent fashion. For every product sold, a portion of the revenue returns directly to the women of the cooperative.

Argania believes that empowering producers is only part of the process, as developing their communities is an essential step in creating lasting change. To this end, Argania has partnered with Volunteer Morocco, a non-profit that focuses on various community development activities in Morocco, such as hosting health clinics, launching after school programs, deploying irrigation technologies, and more.

The focus of Argania is to deliver high quality, delicious food, while emphasizing the importance of fair trade and community development for its producers. Using this innovative business model that leverages e-commerce and sustainable practices, Argania hopes to become the first major gourmet food cooperative.
