Companies Demonstrate at Computex 2013; Offer ARM-Based Server Solutions to Gigabyte’s Channel Worldwide

Calxeda, a leader in the low power server market, is proud today to detail its partnership with Taiwan-based global IT brand, Gigabyte. The two companies are working together to expand the server footprint of workload-optimized Calxeda EnergyCore® systems. Those solutions will be demonstrated at Computex 2013 in Taipei, June 4-8, 2013, at a private suite at the Grand Hyatt Taipei. To request a meeting with Calxeda and its partners, please visit

“Our partnership with Calxeda is critical to delivering to our customers the ARM-based servers that lower the total cost of ownership for cloud, storage and web applications,” said Kevin Chen, associate vice president, Network & Communication Business Unit, Gigabyte. “Our global channel is excited to offer the energy and cost savings that come from low power servers and we look forward to working with Calxeda and its server-on-a-chip with integrated fabric technology to solve data center efficiency problems.”

Gigabyte is embedding Calxeda EnergyCore processors and EnergyCard modules into its H2C1 servers to provide an ultra energy efficient and configurable platform capable of achieving the perfect balance between storage and compute to drive front-end web servers. This approach combined with Calxeda's integrated fabric switch and management capabilities provides highly efficient performance, minimizes power, and reduces the total cost of ownership by up to 38% compared to traditional web appliances. The Gigabyte H2C1 2U platform can accept up to 24 compute nodes, 24 2.5” HDDs and 80 Gbps of external bandwidth including four 10 Gbps uplinks and four 10 Gbps chassis-to-chassis interlinks. Together, the companies are delivering ARM-based solutions required by the cloud and web services sectors, and will be demonstrating solutions for these sectors at Computex.

“Gigabyte is a key partner for us to provide highly optimized front-end web server appliances to data centers, telecom providers and OEM customers worldwide,” said Bob Baughman, Vice President of Sales, Calxeda. “Demand for ARM-based systems, especially for storage and web applications, is growing rapidly and partners like Gigabyte with its extensive channel and design expertise help drive datacenter adoption of Calxeda’s power-optimized server-on-a-chip with integrated fabric and management technology.”

Gigabyte is one of a growing network of partners working with Calxeda, building on its formal establishment of an Asian subsidiary, Calxeda Asia Ltd, in June 2012. That subsidiary now employs a team of over 25 Calxeda sales and engineering resources working directly with many more local country service providers in a top level distributor network. Now with a presence in 10 cities in China, Japan and Taiwan, Calxeda’s Asia distributor network is led by Macnica Group, which supports Calxeda through its subsidiaries including Galaxy Far East Corporation in Taiwan, Cytech Technology Limited in Hong Kong, Mainland China, and Singapore, and Altima Corporation in Japan. Partners like Gigabyte are critical in getting Calxeda-based solutions deployed and operational with customers across Asia and around the world.
