As feedstock demand recovers in the second half of 2013, the industry will face a new set of challenges.
(PRWEB) June 11, 2013
TZ Minerals International (TZMI) is pleased to announce the release of the 2013 edition of the Titanium Feedstock Annual Review.
Each year TZMI releases a suite of four reports providing a comprehensive, in depth and independent analysis of each of the sectors in the TiO2 value chain. These reports are the Titanium Feedstock Annual Review, Zircon Annual Review, TiO2 Pigment Annual Review and Titanium Metal Annual Review.
The Titanium Feedstock Annual Review provides a review of 2013, with significant developments in the industry, changes to the supply and demand balance during the year, analysis of trade and pricing data in 2012, a detailed history of the sector, as well as outlook for the sector and the strategic challenges facing the industry and comprehensive profiles on sector participants.
After the heady heights reached in 2011, when feedstock producers were in a position of power in terms of pricing, 2012 was markedly different.
The main driver of feedstock demand, the TiO2 pigment industry, started to slow in 2012, and pigment producers responded by building inventory. The extent of the inventory build became evident by the second half of 2012 and by this stage feedstock prices had declined dramatically from the highs reached in 2011.
The Titanium Feedstock Annual Review analyses the impact these actions had on the sector in 2012, going into 2013. As feedstock demand recovers in the second half of 2013, the industry will face a new set of challenges. One of these will be new sources of supply which TZMI covers with details on new projects plus profiles of new and existing participants.
About the industry
The titanium industry is comprised of key mineral sands products, commonly referred to as titanium feedstocks. These raw materials are used primarily in the production of titanium dioxide (TiO2) pigment and in smaller quantities in the production of titanium metal and welding fluxes. The most common mineral sands products are ilmenite, rutile and to a lesser extent leucoxene, plus zircon. The zircon sector is the subject of a comprehensive analysis in the Zircon Annual Review 2013. Ilmenite mineral sands products can also be upgraded to titanium slag or synthetic rutile.
There are a small number of large mining companies or groups that are involved in the production of titanium feedstocks. This relatively small group is dominated by close relationships between producers (miners) and consumers (predominately pigment producers).
The information contained in Titanium Feedstock Annual Review 2013 is carefully researched drawing on TZMI’s extensive database. It is also an essential reference for the industry while identifying key trends and developments within the sector and the broader impact on a global scale.
This is an essential resource for titanium feedstocks information and data. This report is suitable for anyone wanting to maintain an up to date perspective of all elements of the industry, including:
- New titanium feedstock producers
- Established titanium feedstock producers
- Pigment producers
- End-consumers (paint and coatings, paper, plastics, chemicals and others)
- New entrants to the industry
- Financial industry (fund managers, hedge funds, investors and potential investors)
