Once again, this Canada Day weekend, the Burk’s Falls Buck’n Rodeo will return to Almaguin Highlands, Ontario, attracting hundreds of participants and thousands of spectators to this scenic central Ontario tourist region. According to Michael Piraino, co-owner of Northridge Inn & Resort (http://www.northridgeinn.com), an award-winning Ontario resort located in the Almaguin Highlands, popular events like the Burk’s Falls Buck’n Rodeo, are extremely important to the economy of the area. “The community supports this exciting event and backs it 100 percent. Last year the Rodeo brought thousands of people to the Almaguin Highlands. It’s a first-class event that area businesses can be proud to promote,” exclaims Piraino.
The Burk’s Falls Buck’n Rodeo was held for the first time in 2012, and proved to be an overwhelming success, attracting 181 entrants and over 17,000 spectators. It was so well received that it was nominated for the prestigious Ontario Rodeo Association Rodeo of the Year Award and received rave reviews from the Ontario rodeo community, participants, spectators and the local community. For its second year, the Burk’s Falls Buck’n Rodeo is returning bigger and better than ever as part of the New Holland Elite Rodeo Series. Organizers Lucy Borne and Dawn Corless anticipate more than 200 entrants this year and expect crowds to be even greater than last year, due to the success of the 2012 event and a significant increase media attention, including spots on CTV.
The 2013 Burk’s Falls Buck’n Rodeo takes place June 28th through June 30th at be the Burk’s Falls Arena and Fair Grounds, located at 220 Centre Street, Burk’s Falls Ontario. The town of Burk’s Falls is situated just north of Muskoka, less than 30 minutes from Huntsville on Highway 11. During rodeo weekend, as well as the official Bar K Rodeo events, there will plenty of other fun things to see and do, including the rodeo queen contest, a play zone, petting zoo and pony ride for the kids, the Buck’n Rodeo “Jail and Bail”, an adult “watering hole”, a Chili Cook-off, vendors market and a whole lot more. The weekend also offers some great musical entertainment, starting 8pm Friday night with a Musical Tribute to George Jones by Travis Middlebrook, along with dinner and dancing. Saturday afternoon’s live music will be provided by Stone House, Bill Stewart, Jenny & Friends and Paper Money, and later that night, an outdoor concert with Jamie Warren and Mike Lynch. On Sunday, there will be square dancing to Helen Bell and Band.
Almaguin resort owner Mike Piraino reports that he is looking forward to the return of the Burk’s Falls Buck’n Rodeo. “We plan to offer a number of special Canada Day resort packages for people attending the rodeo. Northridge Inn is just 15 minutes from Burk’s Falls, so it’s an ideal location for people who want to see the rodeo, but also want to spend some time relaxing on the beach. We are very excited about the upcoming rodeo. Last year we heard nothing but positive comments about the event from our resort guests and from the community. We even heard a number of rodeo enthusiasts say that it was the best rodeo of the year,” says Piraino.
