Premiered at the 2012 City-County Communications & Marketing Association (3MCA) Conference, the video is the humorous acting debut of Vision Internet President Steve Chapin and describes how the company asked its local government customers what features they wanted to see in the next generation of municipal websites.
“One thing we’ve learned over 17 years of working with government agencies to create successful websites is that no one knows better than the people administering them what the next generation of municipal websites should look like,” said Chapin. “We wanted our clients to know that we are listening and their ideas make a difference.”
The video showcased a suggestion box, full of website management ideas from local government agencies including an IT manager’s request for a content management system that can be highly customized, a public information officer’s suggestion to provide a way for staff to easily drag and drop files, and a request for one set subscription fee for hosting, maintenance and support services. Chapin reads each and proudly proclaims “Done!”
Suggestions then turn tongue-in-cheek for a site powered by a human operated generator to protect the environment and promote fitness, bringing to mind a thought bubble of fitness guru Richard Simmons (“Too sweaty”). Other humorous suggestions include a beer app associated with the 2012 3CMA Conference theme “Brewing up Success.”
“Our intention was to communicate all the new features included with the latest visionCMS in a way that was creative and entertaining,” explained Ashley Fruechting, Vision Internet’s director of strategic initiatives and writer of the video’s script. “We take website development seriously, but still like to have fun.”
