According to The Canarian Weekly, recent research has suggested that the number of Spanish moving to the United Kingdom to live and work has increased. Official figures from 2002 show that 11,000 Spaniards moved to the United Kingdom and in 2011 the same measurement was over 30,000. Between 2010 and 2011 alone the number of Spanish people who had received a National Insurance Number in order to work in the UK had increased by 6,000. The figures suggest that during this time Spain was badly hit by the recession, many moved abroad in search of better career prospects and employment. Further figures reveal that the typical immigrant was of 35 to 44 years old with high qualifications and a higher disposable income. It was also shown that immigrates had a confirmed job offer before moving to the United Kingdom.
