An increasing amount of customers tell us that the ability to scale their bandwidth is more important than the cost savings that copper based circuits would bring
New York, NY (PRWEB) June 03, 2013
Line-provider.com, a leading telecommunications solutions provider, has reported an increased demand for fiber based Ethernet broadband access. The increased demand seems to be generated by both new markets opening up, as well as a shift from copper to fiber based access.
“While both copper and fiber based broadband circuits have their distinct advantages, we see a great increase in the demand for fiber based bandwidth. The shift seems to be driven by more companies using or expecting to use cloud based services and disaster recovery solutions in the very near future. An increasing amount of customers tell us that the ability to scale their bandwidth is more important than the cost savings that copper based circuits would bring,” states Line-provider’s VP of Sales Marco Wind.
While Ethernet over Copper (EoC) in the LAN has just had its 40th birthday, EoC as a broadband access method has only become popular over the last few years. Despite of its very competitive pricing, Line-provider sees more and more companies ultimately selecting a fiber based circuit.
“Sometimes it is because of latency sensitive applications, but over the last 6 months the argument we heard most was the scalability of fiber,” Mr. Wind continues. “It is hard to upgrade a 100Mbps EoC circuit, but when you are on a 100Mbps port on a gigabit Ethernet circuit, there is plenty of room to upgrade”.
Cloud solutions are in such demand that Line-provider expects the shift to fiber to become even more extreme over the next year. According to Line-provider, Microsoft is expected to heavily promote their Windows Azure Cloud platform, directly competing with Amazon’s cloud solutions by offering cloud capacity by the minute. Google also recently announced to offer their Google Compute Engine on a per minute charge. And every major carrier nowadays is offering cloud solutions. This is where the marketing budgets are going to be allocated to.
Line-provider is an independent telecommunications agency that helps both SMB and enterprise customers with their cloud and networking needs.
