It has been reported in HVP that the survey revealed some positive findings, with plumbers expected to see improved business prospects in 2013. 90% anticipate their business to grow by at least 15%. Plumbers also claimed that managing cash flow is their biggest challenge, with the pressure of staying on top of finances and dealing with administration close competitors.

The event, organised by Sage in Croydon recently, also looked into whether local business owners understood the new changes to PAYE. Coming into effect 6th April 2013, employers are now required to start providing PAYE, national insurance and student loan information to HMRC every single time they pay an employee. The survey revealed that overall knowledge of the initiative and its implications was somewhat split. Neilson Watts from Sage UK, explained that “It is worrying that so many tradesman seem to be unprepared for the payroll changes that are due to affect their businesses.”
