Silverton Mortgage Specialists, Inc. announces the official launch of The Silverton Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides a mortgage and rent assistance program for families with hospitalized children. The goal is to help families maintain their homes and reduce financial and emotional burdens during times of crisis.

“As mortgage professionals, we realize that ‘home’ is an important center for families; a place to return after the crisis subsides. It is a place where continued care may be provided and where loved ones wait for a child's return,” says Josh Moffitt, President and Founder of Silverton Mortgage Specialists. “Our goal is to lessen financial and emotional burden on families, allowing them to concentrate their efforts on their ill child.”

The Silverton Foundation serves families with children who have been hospitalized or who receive ongoing critical care treatments. The Foundation connects with this population by reaching out to Georgia-based hospitals with a focus on serving children and works directly with social workers at these facilities who determine those families in need of The Silverton Foundation's assistance. From there, The Silverton Foundation makes the rent, mortgage or temporary housing payments directly to the mortgage company or landlord. The first payment was made in September 2012 and, in the course of the last nine months, the Foundation has helped 12 different families keep their homes.

The Silverton Foundation was a dream of Moffitt's, who lives by the philosophy that “success without sharing is failure.” From the company’s beginning in 1998, their mission included a strong commitment to giving back to the community; to share success and good fortune with those who need a little extra help. In this spirit, Moffitt spearheaded annual fundraisers to help various Atlanta-based nonprofits, raising tens of thousands of dollars. With the good fortune and growth of the company, Moffitt felt it was time to take the next step and make the commitment to a full-time nonprofit backed by Silverton Mortgage. Thus, The Silverton Foundation was born.

Until now, The Silverton Foundation was funded through Silverton Mortgage Specialists who set aside money from every loan closed throughout the company to make housing payments for families identified through Atlanta Children’s Healthcare/AFLAC Center for Blood Disorders. Now, with the official Letter of Determination announcing the Foundation’s 501(c)(3) status, the entire Atlanta community can join in to give back.

“While donations will still be made in-house from each closing, we now invite our friends and neighbors to join us in helping these families in need,” says Moffitt. You can do so by going to by going to http://www.TheSilvertonFoundation.org/giving.html.
