Presidential White House Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett Headlines at Consortium 2013 “Pioneering A New Path” 10th Anniversary Gathering

Marking its 10th anniversary, the RG & Associates’ signature Consortium event has emerged as the must-attend gathering where institutional investors can connect with small and diverse managers.

Over 300 industry professionals will converge accounting for over $2T of institutional investor assets in the room.

Representatives from the nation’s largest public and private pension plans, state treasurers, foundations and endowments, consultants and fund of funds are set to meet with small and diverse managers (a.k.a. emerging managers) at Consortium 2013 and explore issues regarding sector returns and possible investment opportunities.

Marking its 10th anniversary, RG & Associates’ signature Consortium event has emerged as the must-attend gathering where institutional investors can connect with experienced managers at newly launched private equity, hedge, public equity and real estate funds. President Obama Senior Advisor, Valerie Jarrett, is confirmed as the Consortium 2013 keynote speaker and will offer insights into federal initiatives aimed at minority and women-owned businesses. Additionally, high profile industry influencers (rarely on stage together) will share provocative perspectives and insights based on their unique experiences in the investment arena. Two companion programs—The Bootcamp for Emerging Managers and The Intensive for Institutional Investors—held just prior to Consortium 2013 add more educational and networking opportunities. All events will be held in New York City, June 5-6th at The Intercontinental New York Times Square.

“Our annual Consortium is the meeting point for institutional investors to gain exposure to the country’s top small and diverse manager talent, share best practices with their peers, and better understand the business proposition of diversifying their investment manager line-up. Over the last decade, we have worked to dispel emerging manager myths—including misperceptions that small and diverse are less competitive than bigger majority managers and that there are insurmountable risks associated with these managers,” said Renae Griffin, CEO, RG & Associates. “Consortium 2013 participants learn the facts and benefits of doing business with small and diverse firms.”

Consortium 2013 sessions will explore sector performance, protocols and fund operations; a series of ‘mini’ workshops provide hands-on insights from 25+ institutional investors regarding their current—and future—investment strategies and possible points of engagement for small and diverse managers, consultants and fund of funds. Over 300 industry professionals will converge accounting for over $2T of institutional investor assets in the room.

“Investing with minority and women-owned firms is a business decision driven by returns—it is a business decision, not a socially responsible act. Managers understand that fundraising is a highly competitive process based not on gender or ethnicity, but on solid and compelling investment strategies, strong teams, proven experience and performance. Consortium 2013 is the forum that connects institutional investors and small and diverse managers,” added Griffin.

In addition to Consortium 2013, the event includes two half-day programs focused on critical needs of managers and institutional investors:

  •      The Bootcamp addresses challenges small and diverse managers face as they launch and grow their firms. Attendees include leaders of funds that have launched in the past 24 months, including teams raising their first or second rounds of institutional financing. Sessions focus on fundraising strategies, pitches and materials for more effective engagement and traction within the institutional investor and consultant arena.
  •      The Intensive brings together representatives from approximately 40 public and private pension funds, endowments, foundations and union funds for a rare, peer-to-peer dialogue.
