'Old School Shirt Makers New York’ produces hand-crafted men's shirts in the U.S.A. for confident, self assured individuals, merging tradition with the best of city elegance and American flare.

As menswear designers move in droves to produce cheaper lines overseas, veteran style director and modern day renaissance man Kevin Stewart is launching a new line of men’s dress shirts manufactured right here at home (Newark, NJ specifically), using union labor and 100% cotton – both the essential fabrics of our culture and community. ‘Old School Shirt Makers New York,’ as the hand-sewn labels read, produces hand-crafted men's (and soon to come women’s) shirts for confident, self assured individuals, merging tradition with the best of city elegance and American flare.

Launching June 4, 2013, Old School Shirt Makers will roll out an initial line of nine styles of men’s dress shirts (ranging in price from $180 - $310) that draw directly from Stewart’s interpretation of Americana, his love of music and an overall desire to literally weave the historic fabrics of America into a modern day quality men’s shirt. Kevin Stewart has created an original look that is unquestionably modern, yet classic in its detailing, and pays subtle homage to jazz of the 1950’s and ’60s. From the “Joe Strummer ($295),” a sleeveless, bright red, snap-down shirt with a club collar inspired by the band The Clash and celebrating tattoo culture to “The Gatsby ($225),” a two button club collar dress shirt with a two button cocktail cuff, Stewart pulls from multiple decades and themes. Regardless of either, Stewart made sure certain features of an “American Shirt” were incorporated into the designs, including Western Yolk stitching, Cocktail Cuff and Club Collar.

Clothing has played an integral role in Kevin Stewart’s career for the last 20 years. Having served as the Fashion and Style Director for some of the largest titles in the publishing world, including ESPN The Magazine, Vibe and Details, in addition to being a visual merchandiser for luxury retailers like Saks Fifth Avenue and Barney’s, Stewart has long been at the forefront of dictating fashion trends, certainly not following them. The same holds true now as the Creative Director and Designer for Old School Shirt Makers New York.

“For years I sought out the latest trends and assembled looks from others’ creations. Now it is my turn to create. To call upon my inspiration and vision for the modern man who has a higher appreciation for what’s on his back than most,” commented Stewart.

The Men’s collection can be found and purchased online at with delivery available to all 50 States, as well as International destinations. The line will also soon be available in high-end boutiques around the world. Stewart has no intention of adhering to the traditional “seasonal” approach of fashion so he will role out new designs / lines when inspiration strikes throughout the year. Although the brand is starting with a line of just nine men’s shirts, a women’s line is close to follow, as well as handmade ties.

Founded by New York native Kevin Stewart in 2013, Old School Shirt Makers New York is a privately held company with offices in New York City and production facilities in New Jersey. Dedicated to manufacturing local and distributing global, Old School Shirt Makers intends to redefine how luxury men’s and women’s wear is designed, produced and purchased.
