The Utah Science Technology and Research (USTAR) initiative and Grow Utah Ventures announced the three finalists in the 2013 Southern Utah Concept to Company Contest on May 30, 2013. The finalists were selected from 55 applicants.
These finalists presented their ideas to a panel of judges and the public to determine their share of $40,000 in cash and services at a CrowdPitch event. The C2C contest is organized and hosted by Grow Utah Ventures, SEED Dixie, and Zions Bank. The premier sponsors of the contest are OveractDev Technology Partners, USTAR, Durham, Jones, & Pinegar Law, Savage, Esplin, and Radmall Accounting, and an anonymous cash donor.
OveractDev’s Founder and President Jerry T. Brown was amongst the panel of judges to determine the three finalists that presented at the CrowdPitch event today. He said, “The quality of tech companies emerging from Southern Utah are every bit as good as those from larger tech markets like Northern Utah or Silicon Valley. I am extremely impressed by the companies that presented today and the kinds of technologies they are creating.”
The Grand Prize winner is RFID Laundry Tagging System by Li4. They received $10,000 in cash and $10,000 in-kind services. Li4’s RFID product tags linens with a unique chip in order to keep track of inventory, determine when linens need to be replaced, and help prevent theft.
The two runners up, RxTrax and All-Tie Anchor Post, will each receive $5,000 in cash and $5,000 in mentoring and other services.
The Concept to Company competition in the Southwest region’s of Utah focuses on general technology. Winning entrepreneurs receive cash awards as well as mentoring services from leading professionals. To date, the Concept to Company contests have distributed more than $540,000 in cash and services and have helped launch over 80 companies statewide.
