White House Chooses Internships.com as Platform to Support Youth Jobs+

Cities of Tucson, Grand Rapids and Los Angeles using Internships.com to enable youth and local businesses to connect.

Building off of the 2012 Summer Jobs+ program, President Obama has announced Youth Jobs+ and issued a challenge to businesses, non-profits, and government to work together to provide employment opportunities for low-income and disconnected youth. As part of Youth Jobs+, the Administration has asked Internships.com, the world’s largest internships marketplace, to participate by offering an online internships platform to any local government seeking to provide pathways to employment for their youth.

Under the program, Internships.com will provide a Youth Jobs+ platform to complement the youth employment initiatives of any participating city or county. The platform will comprise of a custom landing page where youth can search and apply for all open internships and jobs and employers can post their employment opportunities for free. The cities of Tucson, Grand Rapids and Los Angeles are already using the Internships.com platform to support their Youth Jobs+ projects and have in aggregate more than 3,500 opportunities available for their youth.

It’s a win-win for employer and employee,” said Jonathan Rothschild, Mayor of Tucson. “Let’s tap into the creative minds and abilities of our youth by engaging them actively in the economic engines of our cities and communities. Youth employment is about their future and ours!” said George K. Heartwell, Mayor, City of Grand Rapids.
