Cody Owens Earns Camden Military Academy’s James F. Risher Award

Cody Dennis Owens of Salem, SC, was given the James F. Risher Award at the Camden Military Academy commencement held on May 19.

“If it weren’t for Camden Military Academy, I would have dropped out of school before my senior year. I wouldn’t have a great GPA or be taking college classes."

“The Risher Award is presented to the senior selected by the cadet corps and faculty who represents the ideal cadet. It is named in honor of Colonel James F. Risher who was the president of Carlisle Military School and found of Camden Military Academy,” explained LTC Pat Armstrong, CMA commandant of cadets.

Owens credited his grandparents for inspiring him to well at Camden. “If it weren’t for Camden Military Academy, I would have dropped out of school before my senior year. I wouldn’t have a great GPA or be taking college classes. If it weren’t for the great faculty and staff, the support and opportunities and the second chance I was given, I wouldn’t be the person I am today,” said Owens. Risher earned the highest GPA of Camden Military's 2013 senior class.
