Having the 2013 Essence Festival represented with the GoNOLA app underscores the Festival’s role in establishing New Orleans as the definitive 4th of July African-American cultural destination,” said Joy Collins, General Manager, ESSENCE.

NOTMC has teamed up with Essence Festival to update its popular GoNOLA visitor app, by adding new content that highlights events in the city during the festival weekend, and also makes it easier to purchase tickets.

The new features center around a top ten list that includes festival organizers' recommendations on things to do while in New Orleans during the event. The list includes information on music, culture, empowerment, and other aspects of the festival. Direct links to purchase Festival tickets are also available as part of the new content.

“Essence Fest is a huge event in New Orleans and we wanted to bring something special to those attending,” said Mark Romig, President and CEO of NOTMC. “Our social media channels offer opportunities for Essence visitors to tweet or facebook about the celebrities they see, or take a walking tour with one on GoNOLA.”

Within the app, among other celebrities, Documentary Producer Soledad O’Brien guides a City Park Tour and hometown actors John Goodman and Wendell Pierce each take turns sharing their love of New Orleans through different narrated walking tours throughout the city.

The GoNOLA App will be a fan’s best friend while attending Essence Festival and fans can also connect with NOTMC via social media while they are in town.

Visitors to the city are encouraged to engage with the city of New Orleans’ official tourism office on Twitter @VisitNewOrleans for information and recommendations on things to do, places to eat and what to see. @VisitNewOrleans is monitored and updated by local experts in real time, and guests to the city can also become a fan of the Official New Orleans Tourism Facebook page at Facebook.com/NewOrleans for more information on great things to do in New Orleans.

“The importance of the Essence Festival to our culture, our festival calendar and our economy cannot be overstated,” said Mayor Mitch Landrieu. “I am glad NOTMC will have a specialized app to offer our Essence guests a way to navigate the city while they are here."

The GoNOLA app is available at no charge for both iPhone and Android in the iTunes and Google Play stores. Its original launch was in 2012.
