Voice Dream Reader app offers the most intuitive, accessible and customizable reading experience.

Voice Dream today launched a new version of Voice Dream Reader, its best-selling universal iOS app that allows users to create their own personal reading experience. With a personal pronunciation dictionary, configurable navigation, and comprehensive support for mix-mode reading, users can now better tailor the app to fit their specific needs.

Since launching in 2012, Voice Dream Reader has helped over 100,000 people turn their iOS devices into the world’s most advanced mobile text-to-speech readers. It lets each user decide the best reading mode, whether it be purely auditory, purely visual, or the combination of the two. Along the way it became one of the top 10 grossing Apple iOS Education Apps in more than 60 countries, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, Spain and France. Volunteers translated the user interface into 12 languages.

The app has been particularly well received by educators and assistive technology specialists for helping students with learning differences such as dyslexia, Attention Deficit Disorder, low vision and blindness.

"I have to do a great deal of reading myself, and Voice Dream Reader is my favorite app to read with,” said educational psychologist James Nuttall. “I especially appreciate that Voice Dream Reader is highly customizable for fonts, font size and colors. Voice Read Reader lets you combine hearing the text in a high quality voice while you follow the text visually.”

Notable new features include:

  • Advanced Personal Pronunciation Dictionary – Voice Dream Reader allows users to set rules for pronouncing words and text patterns. For example, “lol” can be pronounced as “laughing out loud,” and chapter-version numbers in the Bible can be skipped. Users can set different pronunciation dictionaries for different languages.
  • Configurable Navigation – Configurable Navigation lets users go forward or backward in the text by any Navigation Unit chosen by the user. Navigation Units include sentences, paragraphs, pages, chapters, bookmarks, highlights, or 15, 30 or 60 seconds. This feature is particularly useful for visually impaired users who cannot navigate through text by scrolling.
  • Mixed Mode Reading Support – In addition to free vertical scrolling, users can scroll by page. Maximum font size is increased to 80, and word or line highlighting can be optionally disabled. Voice Dream Reader now remembers the visual location, speech location, and speed rate for each article or book.

A full list of new features can be viewed in the Voice Dream Reader blog post. The new version of Voice Dream Reader is available immediately for $9.99 from the Apple App Store. A free Lite version is also available.
