Dayton-based nonprofit receives recognition from Ohio Association of Health Plans.

CareSource received two Pinnacle Awards at the 2013 Ohio Association of Health Plan’s (OAHP) Annual Convention in May. CareSource won in the Health Care Programs and Community Outreach/Partnerships categories for their CARE4U Case Management Program and the Medication Therapy Management Program (MTM), respectively. The Pinnacle Awards recognize the efforts of health plans to improve the quality of health care for Ohioans.

The CARE4U Case Management Program addresses controlled substance abuse and provides community-based care to reduce the overall dependency on controlled substances. CareSource has helped 15 percent of the program enrollees abstain from narcotics completely and 25 percent reduce their overall dependence after completion.

The Medication Therapy Management Program is a program that utilizes pharmacists’ clinical training and communication aptitude to monitor CareSource members’ medication regimens while controlling overall costs. The MTM program was launched in July 2012 and is a collaborative project between CareSource and community pharmacists in Ohio. The goal of the MTM program is to identify opportunities for the pharmacist to improve a member’s medication regimen. Roughly four percent of CareSource members and 1,243 pharmacies are participating in the MTM program.

OAHP invited all member plans to participate in the competition, which provided an opportunity for health plans to demonstrate what they are doing to provide exemplary care and service for their members and community. A panel of experts representing hospitals, doctors, businesses, consumer advocates and regulators judged the submissions and selected the winners. This is the third year in a row CareSource has been recognized with Pinnacle Awards.
