Wisselman, Harounian & Associates, P.C. will host the 12th annual Legal Workshop for Mental Health Professionals in Port Washington, New York. The workshop will discuss mental health disorders and child custody determinations. Participants may be able to receive Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for attending the workshop.
During the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to explore case studies based on actual child custody cases to see how mental health disorders - such as bipolar disorder - affect custody rulings when a child’s parents file for divorce. Attorneys from the firm will present facts and evidence for both sides of the dispute, followed by discussion.
The workshop will explore the impact of parenting styles, personality disorders, and family relationships. Attendees will compare authoritarian and permissive parenting styles as they relate to custody and bipolar disorders; issues that can have a direct impact on the outcome of a custody dispute.
Participants will also learn about alternative dispute resolution (mediation), the responsibility of a forensic evaluator, and the role of mental health professionals during child custody disagreements. The workshop is designed help professionals understand the purpose of evaluators and will examine court testimony techniques for expert witnesses and treating therapists.
This year, the workshop will feature Dr. N.G. Berrill. Dr. Berrill has participated in many high-profile child custody cases across the nation and lectured about child custody matters, divorce, and the mental disorders. He graduated from Vanderbilt University with a doctorate in clinical psychology and received post-doctoral training at Georgetown University Medical School, where he studied clinical neuropsychology.
The 12th annual Legal Workshop for Mental Health Professionals will take place at the Port Washington Yacht Club on Friday, June 14th, 2013. Registration begins at 11:30 am, followed by the workshop from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Participants do not have to pay to attend the workshop and lunch will be provided.
