Because our teachers have so many different responsibilities, we necessarily have to rely on our TAs to help out in the studio - especially in terms of setting a great example for our younger students. Our TAs set the tone for the day, every day.

Dance Academy USA is currently accepting applications for their 2013-2014 Teacher Assistant Program. This program has been in place at DAU for over 15 years and currently includes approximately 50 DAU students.
The TA program is co-lead by DAU Programs Director Jenni Tibbils, as well as Marisa Cruz, the Community Outreach Director. The Teacher’s Assistant Program consists of training and developing older, more advanced dancers to work in a classroom setting, provide extra assistance to the DAU Staff and cultivate a positive experience for all DAU dancers. This program allows for students to learn from each other and to develop as future leaders.
To become a TA at DAU, dancers must apply through the office and be selected based on previous dance criteria. Additionally, TAs meet a strict set of requirements each year, which includes training sessions, lesson planning, consistent class attendance, and an annual commitment to their assigned TA classes. DAU TAs volunteer anywhere from one to five hours each week and are extremely hardworking and dedicated to DAU through both teaching as well as through their own dance education.
Dance Academy USA TAs learn many lessons in this program. First and foremost, DAU TAs learn the fundamentals of leadership. When a TA takes on this role, he or she must pay attention to everything going on around them, including: their own energy level; the attitude of the group that day; their own body-language; the lesson plan for the warm-up; and the focus level of the group. Younger students invariably follow the TA’s lead. If the TA is unprepared, the students will be as well. Simply put, there’s no faking it when taking on such a leadership role and that is why the Dance Academy USA Teacher Assistant program is taken so seriously.
“The DAU TA program is invaluable in terms of molding our dancers to be leaders,” said DAU Programs Director, Jenni Tibbils. “Because our teachers have so many different responsibilities, we necessarily have to rely on our TAs to help out in the studio - especially in terms of setting a great example for our younger students. Our TAs set the tone for the day, every day.”
