Netcraft's performance measurements are made at fifteen minute intervals from separate points around the internet, and averages are calculated over the immediately preceding 24 hour period. Sites are ranked in order of failed requests and time to connect, shortest first, to give an indication of network capacity and congestion.
VI.NET Managing Director, Patrick McCarthy, commented, "It's always great to see ourselves appear in Netcraft's top ten most reliable hosts list. Netcraft's independent performance measurements provide customers with a good indication of the reliability of the hosting provider that they are selecting and allow customers to make an informed decision based on a worldwide performance analysis."
Netcraft states: "From a customer's point of view, the percentage of failed requests is more pertinent than outages on hosting companies' own sites, as this gives a pointer to reliability of routing, and this is why we rank our table by fewest failed requests rather than shortest periods of outage." More information on the measurement process and current measurements is available on Netcraft's site.
