80% of patients go online for health research and 32% of patients are looking online for the prices of medical procedures.
Tampa, Florida (PRWEB) June 06, 2013
The Tampa Bay Business Journal’s Social Madness contest kicked off this week and local health care start-up Save On Medical is competing for the win. Designed for local businesses to improve their social media efforts in a competition against other community members, Social Madness brings some of Tampa’s greatest businesses together for social media domination.
Save On Medical, which is a cost comparison website for patients shopping for health care services, is a nationwide site but the founders and team members reside here in Tampa Bay. Competing in the small business category, Save On Medical hopes that their involvement in this contest will help them reach more patients in the community.
“Our goal is to help patients who are uninsured or in high-deductible health plans, find affordable health care in an industry known for confusing, high costs,” says Vice President Matt Schneider. Shockingly, 80% of patients go online for health research and 32% of patients are looking online for the prices of medical procedures. Schneider said, “What better place could we go to spread our message other than on social media, directly to our patients?”
Stage one of the Social Madness Competition ends on June 17th. Participating businesses are scored based on their activity on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+, in addition to a voting poll on the Tampa Bay Business Journal’s website where visitors can vote every day for their favorite contestants. Round two kicks off on June 18th and the competition’s national winners will be announced on July 9th.
