We encourage businesses and homeowners to give a call to their local generator representatives to discuss an emergency power plan and learn about cost-effective generator equipment that’s available to them.

Syracuse, NY-based mechanical contracting firm TAG Mechanical Systems Inc. reports that it has seen a 25 percent uptick in the number of inquiries regarding generators for homes and businesses during the first week of the 2013 hurricane season, which officially began June 1.

“I’m not surprised given that more than two million people in the state of New York were affected by the devastation of Hurricane Sandy, and those affected had to deal with an average of 103 hours without power,” said Court Rutherford, TAG Mechanical’s energy manager.

According to experts at Colorado State’s Department of Atmospheric Science, this current hurricane season is expected to be a very active one. Information obtained through March 2013 indicates that the “…probably of U.S. major hurricane landfall is estimated to be about 140 percent of the long-period average.”

To provide a way for its customers to have standby power generation, TAG Mechanical sells and installs two top brands of generator, Generac and Kohler.

“We encourage businesses and homeowners to give a call to their local generator representatives to discuss an emergency power plan and learn about cost-effective generator equipment that’s available to them,” said Rutherford. “Home and business owners can take control and position themselves to not be at the mercy of extreme weather and extended power outages,” he said.

A permanently installed standby generator for a home or business provides power during power outages. The equipment operates on a variety of fossil fuels (such as natural gas, propane, or diesel) and can provide sufficient power to maintain heating or cooling, refrigeration, lights, and communications capabilities.
