From age nine, Spencer Nuzzi found a passion in skateboarding, and became a professional who toured the U.S. with Tony Hawk. “It taught me life lessons such as practice and patience,” explains the Del Mar, California native. “As long as I can remember, the look of the skateboarder was just as important to me as skating itself.” As a young teen, Spencer was already being sponsored by several brands, including Arnette Sunglasses and Birdhouse Skateboards.
After being exposed to the skate industry, Spencer found an interest beyond skating itself. “I found myself at tradeshows more and being focused on the fashion side more than the skateboard side.” Because of this newfound interest, he decided to apply to college at FIDM, where he will study fashion merchandising beginning this summer.
“Growing up, my biggest accomplishment in the skateboarding world was being able to travel with Tony Hawk,” he explains. “Now my proudest accomplishment is being accepted into FIDM and pursuing my new career path in Merchandise Marketing.” Spencer said that FIDM’s programs, resources, and “amazing” staff are what made the college right for him. He is looking forward to a career in fashion and continues to film for the Ride Channel (YouTube’s Skateboard Channel) and mentor younger skaters.
