Cincinnati, OH (PRWEB) June 08, 2013
On June 6, 2013, the Cincinnati Reds selected number 27 Samford outfielder Phillip Ervin in the 2013 MLB Draft. Ervin is a great player who has had a phenomenal year in the Cape Cod league. Last summer he was named MVP and earned All-American honors. As only a junior his stats read .337/.459/.597 with 11 home runs and 21 stolen bases in only 55 games. Ervin is seen as a high-floor offensive player because of his bat speed and power. Ervin says that he is going to work his hardest and wants to get out of the minors as quickly as possible. MLB.com ranked him as the 21st best prospect in the draft. With the 38th overall pick the Reds selected Michael Lorenzen, a closer out of Cal State Fullerton. Lorenzen is a right handed pitcher that also played in the outfield in college, but the Reds took him as a pitcher. In their last pick of the first night of the draft, the Reds chose third baseman Kevin Franklin from Gahr High School in California.
