The U.S. National Mens' Soccer Team opened this year’s 18-game schedule in January with a tie against Canada in Houston, Texas. In February, they lost in Honduras 1-2, but rebounded to slip past Costa Rica 1-0 on a snowy March night in Denver, Colorado.
Next they tied Mexico 0-0 in Mexico, and bowed to Belgium 2-4 at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio. And just recently, they glided by Germany 4-3 in an International Friendly (IF) match at RFK Stadium in Washington D.C.. The match also marked the 100th anniversary of the U.S. Soccer Federation.
Tickets went on sale today to the team’s upcoming IF match against Guatemala at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, California on July 5, 2013. The team played Jamaica in a World Cup Qualifier last night in Kingston, with results not available before press time.

The team’s next opponent is Belize at Jeld-Wen Field in Portland, Oregon on July 9; Cuba at Rio Tinto on July 13; Costa Rica at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Conn. on July 17; Bosnia and Herzegovina overseas on August 13; Costa Rica in Costa Rica on September 6; Mexico at Columbus Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio on September 10; Jamaica at Livestrong Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kansas on October 11 and Panama in Panama on October 15. All of the last four matches are World Cup Qualifiers.
The United States Mens’ National team has reached the World Cup only seven times in the past 100 years. Out of nine shows, the team captured their best ever finish in the inaugural World Cup in 1930, when they finished third. After competing in the 1950 World Cup, the US National team did not qualify for the next 40 years. The sport began to gain in popularity in the late 80’s and early 90’s, starting a trend that would send the National team to six straight World Cup competitions.
