Colorado State University-Global Campus (CSUGlobal.edu) held its 2013 Commencement Ceremony on June 1 at the 1STBANK Center in Broomfield, Colorado. With over 450 participating graduates celebrating with 4,000 friends and family members in attendance, this year’s event marked the largest commencement ever for the nation’s first independent, 100 percent online state university.

“Commencement is a time to celebrate the hard work and dedication it takes to complete a degree,” said Dr. Becky Takeda-Tinker, President of Colorado State University-Global Campus. “This is especially meaningful for our students since they are adult learners who have earned their degree while balancing their career, family, and other life obligations.”

Graduates of CSU-Global’s bachelor’s degree and master’s degree programs walked in this year’s ceremony, which featured a keynote address by Andrew Hudson from Andrew Hudson’s Jobs List and an alumni address by Ms. Diana Liles who herself was graduating with her M.S. in Organizational Leader degree. The Broomfield Police Honor Guard presented the colors and Ms. Ariel Spencer, an Admissions Counselor at CSU-Global, sang the national anthem.

CSU-Global’s first commencement ceremony in 2009 featured only 14 students and was done in conjunction with its sister school CSU in Fort Collins. The independently accredited online university began holding its own commencement in 2011 with the number of participants steadily increasing every year as the school has grown its student body and number of online degree programs. The university has conferred 1,876 degrees since its inception.

“Our students work closely with classmates, faculty, and staff throughout their education,” continued Dr Takeda-Tinker. “They develop great connections and friendships even though they may have never met before in person. Commencement is an opportunity to strengthen those bonds and celebrate their achievements together.”

CSU-Global offers accelerated 8-week terms that start every four weeks. Students interested in learning more about CSU-Global’s fully online educational opportunities should contact an Admissions Counselor at 1-800-920-6723 or can apply online at CSUGlobal.edu/apply.
