Opportunities such as the one afforded by NCI are rare, and those of us who pursue theatre criticism seriously look forward to honing our skills.
New York, NY (PRWEB) June 11, 2013
TheAndyGram.com announces that Broadway theatre journalist, critic and blogger Andrew C. McGibbon has been accepted as a 2013 Fellow at the prestigious National Critics Institute at the Waterford, CT-based Eugene O’Neil Theater Center.
After 25 years in the theatre industry as a professional stage manager, general manager, producer and journalist, McGibbon established TheAndyGram.com in 2009 to feature his Broadway reviews, theatre news and information. McGibbon is a member of the American Theatre Critics Association, the Independent Theatre Bloggers Association, Actors’ Equity Association and the Screen Actors Guild. He has covered the Tony Awards for Playbill.com, Theatre.com, TonyAwards.com and now TheAndyGram.com for the past 19 years.
“I’m so excited to take part in the National Critics Institute,” said Mr. McGibbon. “Opportunities such as the one afforded by NCI are rare, and those of us who pursue theatre criticism seriously look forward to honing our skills.”
The National Critics Institute brings a dozen emerging theater critics to Waterford every summer to live, work and learn from the artists of the National Playwrights Conference and National Music Theater Conference.
"It's a difficult time for arts journalists. For all our interest in tomorrow's critics, we also want to work with seasoned writers like Andy, who realize that it's still about putting a good sentence together," said Dan Sullivan, the Director of the National Critics Institute.
The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center specializes in the development of new plays, new musicals and new thinking about the future of the American theater. It is located in Waterford, CT, a few miles from Eugene O'Neill's family home.
The National Critics Institute runs from June 29 to July 15, 2013. Mr. McGibbon’s participation has been partially underwritten by a scholarship from the American Theatre Critics Association.
