Detectives at Private Detective Leicester give information on CCTV system services and installation in light of recent The Telegraph report by Peter Dominiczak dated 09 June 2013: CCTV: New controls on private security cameras to stop homeowners snooping on neighbours.

It can be very easy and tempting to misuse CCTV systems to spy on your neighbours, therefore in my professional opinion new guidelines into the fitting of security cameras are a really good move by the government.

According to the recent report in The Telegraph by Peter Dominiczak dated 09 June 2013: CCTV: New controls on private security cameras to stop homeowners from snooping on neighbours, Andrew Rennison, The Coalition’s surveillance camera commissioner, said that the government may have to address the growing trend of homeowners setting up elaborate systems in their homes. There are currently no rules governing the use of CCTV systems in private homes and privacy complaints are becoming more common.

The Telegraph report goes on to say that Rennison will probably be publishing guidelines into the fitting of security cameras, such as which way they face, neighbours privacy and the reasoning behind having CCTV fitted. Any attempt to legislate over CCTV cameras outside private homes could cause oppositions from campaigners who believe such cameras are part of crime prevention. As part of the new public CCTV code of practice the government want councils and police forces to review all of their cameras to see if they are effective, are still necessary and they meet the criteria.

When Private Detective Leicester are approached to install CCTV cameras for private use, the detective who carries out the work always ensures that there is no infringement of privacy to the neighbouring homes and properties and that the system is used appropriately by the client. CCTV cameras are fitted for many reasons but mostly for home security and as a deterrent to criminals and intruders. Even in cases of suspected anti-social behaviour by neighbours the cameras are only pointed within the boundaries of the client’s property. Privacy is paramount and Private Detective Leicester goes to great lengths to respect the right to privacy of everyone.
