DMS International and AST Modular are implementing the first Cloud Computing facility in Haiti. This infrastructure will facilitate faster establishment of Business Process Outsourcing, disaster recovery and business continuity in the country.

AST Modular, the Spanish modular data center player and DMS International one of the fastest growing IT service providers in Haiti, have announced the successful delivery of one AST’s Private Cloud Box unit which will enable DMS to provide hosting and outsourcing services to private and public customers across the country.

Private Cloud Box is AST Modular’s prefabricated cloud solution that procures plug & play datacenter cloud capacity and has been placed within Caracol Industrial Park which is a $300 million, 600-acre manufacturing facility built by the Inter-American Development Bank, the Government of the United States and the Government of Haiti to create sustainable jobs in one of Haiti's poorest regions. Caracol Industrial Park will host this state of the art disaster recovery data center in order to procure IaaS and SaaS cloud services to national and international customers.

PCB features 85 virtual machines in a 42U Micro Data Center footprint and it’s based on AST’s Smart Bunker, DELL’s IT hardware, CITRIX’s virtualization platform and AST’s Cloudtimizer software which monitors the energy efficiency and the work load of PCB. In terms of physical infrastructure PCB includes autonomous DX cooling, a rackable UPS, biometric access, remote monitoring System, CCTV Camera, fire extinguishing system, anti seismic features and 2 hours of protection against fire.

AST Modular is offering its PCB to DMS in a CDCaaS (Cloud Data Center as a Service) fashion. The package includes the rental of PCB for a 3 year period contract and comes with support services, SLA and insurance. In a country with significant lack of resources such as Haiti this Solution as a Service model avoids significant capital expenditure in favor of a more sustainable operational expenditure paid on a monthly basis. Haitian organizations will therefore be empowered with IT services, available in most countries, in a shorter time frame and for considerably smaller Capex.

PCB is a very cost effective solution in terms of Opex because of its open source cloud platform – “declared Daniel Silva, COO at DMS International. The Micro Data Center approach also reduces CAPEX dramatically in comparison with traditional brick and mortar DC construction and it will enable our current and future customers to access the cloud easily and benefit from a resilient and fully supported infrastructure.

It is a very important for AST Modular day as we are making our first step into a new Data Center paradigm which will integrate both physical and IT infrastructure in the same solution. Furthermore, PCB is a perfect fit for businesses in emerging markets who want to build their private cloud or disaster recovery datacenter based on a fully Opex financeable model – added Guillermo Entrena, Micro Datacenter Division Manager at AST Modular.

DMS International is an INC 500, Fast 50 company that is implementing ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 27001:2005 service delivery to corporations and government organizations in Haiti.
