Chance to Influence New Management Policies Motivates Audience Attendees

Experts in the science of government performance met today at The Performance Institute’s annual Government Performance Summit 2013 (GPS). For the past twelve years, federal leaders have explored the latest mandates and best practices in performance execution and process improvement strategies at GPS. 400 attendees gathered to discuss this year’s theme, Science of Data: Unlocking Information for Improved Insight. Speakers focused on the increased access and availability of data which allows agencies to use verifiable information to reach strategic goals.

Keynote speaker Kevin Donahue, Executive Director of the Performance Improvement Council (PIC) addressed the participants’ interest in the Government Performance and Results Modernization Act (GPRAMA). Donahue lead an interactive session today, where PIC captured the results. A “commitment to data, a commitment to improving government performance is out there,” according to Donahue. “Public servants produce incredibly valuable contributions to our country, contributions that are demonstrated by data,” he later stated. Key insights collected in the survey will be captured by PIC and act as part of their review into the direction of Management Policy.

In response to the FY 2013 Circular A-11 introducing Data-Driven Government, a panel was convened at GPS, moderated by Jeffrey Press of the Performance Improvement Council. Panelists included Chris Mihm, Director of Strategic Issues with the Government Accountability Office (GAO), David Zlowe, VA Performance Improvement Officer, and Tim Gribben, Director of Performance Management at the U.S. Small Business Administration. Members of the panel shared their thoughts on more efficiently utilizing the information gathered through Data-Driven Government and possible means of increasing performance results.

“With the vast array challenges facing the federal government, The Performance Institute is honored to be able to connect federal workers in such an innovative way,” according to Ted Kniker, Executive Director. He continued, “GPS is an event where we look toward the future to present the most current trends in performance measure for the government.”
