As a business leader who serves as the chairman of the board at offshore drilling service company Blue Marine Technology Group, Antonio Juan Marcos Issa remains focused on discovering opportunities for development in the industry. According to Issa, in order for the offshore drilling market to remain a viable option for the energy sector, oil and gas companies must make a conscious effort to not only engage in current safety practices, but also utilize tools that apply current technology and modern practices. Believing that Blue Marine Technology and other industry leaders can benefit from improvements in offshore drilling, Issa celebrates a recent decision from the U.S. Department of Interior to approve the development of an Offshore Drilling Safety Institute.
A recent article from The Houston Chronicle outlines the new decision, explaining that while the institute will carry no official power, it will still have a positive impact on the way the offshore drilling industry progresses. Specifically, the article states, that the institute will offer “a program of research, technical assistance and education and serve as a center of expertise in oil and gas exploration, development and production technology.”
In response, Antonio Juan Marcos Issa comments, “The Offshore Drilling Safety Institute is an exciting development for the energy industry as a whole. While there are many concerns among industry professionals and environmentalists in regards to this procurement of energy resources, I believe this institute will provide a new source of information to make the subject more approachable. It is my hope that once the center is established, it will create a positive wave of change for the industry, the public and the American economy as a whole.”
In terms of what the Offshore Drilling Safety Institute may offer in the future, The Houston Chronicle reveals, “The center wouldn't focus exclusively on drilling or production, and research would include work on environmental protection, containing blowouts and responding to oil spills. The center also could be a proving ground for standards to govern a new era of drilling and possible oil production in Arctic waters off Alaska.”
“It is very exciting to see that this institute will not only encourage safety, but could also promote greater technological developments and innovative approaches to increase oil production within the US,” Antonio Juan Marcos Issa concludes.
