The guests were welcomed to the Rotheram Avenue Academy by members of the senior leadership team for the Barnfield Federation before an opening speech by Daniel Belcher, Head of Leadership Programmes, SSAT (The Schools Network) Ltd.
Barnfield Director General Sir Peter Birkett gave an overview of the Federation and talked about the skills and qualities required to be a Chief Executive, before Executive Directors Helen Mayhew and Stephen Hall covered shared services within a Federation and collaborative working.
The student Federal Parliament also presented, discussing the Federal benefits and opportunities that students receive.
The guests were taken on a tour of the £30 million Academy building and were also treated to a musical performance by talented Barnfield South students.
Mr Belcher said: “Thank you Barnfield South Academy for hosting our SSAT Executive Headteacher event last week – it was a truly wonderful day. We were impressed by everyone we met and were made to feel so welcome. The standards of excellence you set could be seen through every aspect of the day and in all the staff and students who contributed. From the fantastic greeting at reception, to the high quality of the presentations from Sir Peter and the leadership teams (not to mention the brilliant student pianist who accompanied our lunch). Your students are a real credit to you and I’m sure they will continue to flourish both academically and as well-rounded young people. Our visiting headteachers left with a glowing impression of the Academy.”
Anne Vickers, of Woodlands Primary, said: “A truly inspirational day. Listening to Sir Peter’s presentations and seeing the impact of a visionary leader. Student leaders were wonderful ambassadors for Barnfield.”
Sir Peter Birkett was delighted with the success of the event. He said: “It was an honour to be able to host the SSAT Headteacher Conference at Barnfield and again make use of our wonderful facilities. Our students did us proud, greeting the visitors and talking with passion about the opportunities and experiences they have been able to access within the Federation. We are always striving to improve to be able to provide the best possible experiences and opportunities for our students - conferences such as this allow us to share best practice and further grow as a successful team.”
