Eustis, FL (PRWEB) June 13, 2013
The Team Florida Wave, the first women’s indoor pro volleyball team in Florida, competed in the 2nd Annual PVL Championships May 25-28 in Louisville, KY and brought home a silver medal in the Gold Division. With a record of 7-1, the Florida Wave fell short to Team Iowa Ice in the finals with scores of 18-25, 21-25, and 17-25 but was still able to capture $6,500 of the 20,000 prize purse allotted by USA Volleyball. Three out of the top four teams in the playoffs were all from Team Florida Wave’s pool.
Team Florida Wave outside hitter Kristy Jaeckel, named to the All-Tournament team and a former athlete and graduate of the University of Florida, added, “I love being a part of the Team Florida Wave Program; they are organized, efficient, and always make sure we are taken care of on and off the court. Competing in the PVL with this elite group of athletes and coaches is a great experience and playing against high level competition has made me a better player.”
The mission of the PVL is to create a successful and sustainable indoor professional volleyball league for elite-level post-collegiate female athletes in the United States.
This year’s championships boasted 15 women’s PVL teams from among the forty (40) regional volleyball associations from around the country. The PVL vision is to eventually have 20 women’s teams across the US. Steve Bishop, the General Manager of the Wave and the PVL President is optimistic of the growth of the PVL since its origination last year. “The PVL has grown from 12 women’s teams last year to 15 teams this year and we’re excited to bring professional level volleyball to junior athletes and fans here in the United States. We look forward to adding more teams and creating more playing opportunities for those athletes that wish to play in the US while pursuing a professional career after they finish college,” said Bishop.
